How it works

Married in 5 simple steps

Here's exactly what happens, from checkout to "I do."

Pay the $299 service fee2 min

Secure checkout. Right after paying you land on your private page, and we email you a link back to it.

Apply for your Utah County license15–20 min

We give you the link to Utah County's official online application. Both partners verify their ID online and pay the county's $71.75 license fee directly to Utah County. When it asks for the officiant's email, enter your own email.

Copy the officiant link from Utah County's email1 min

Once your license is issued, Utah County emails you a link for your officiant to sign the license. Paste that link into your private page.

Pick your day and time2 min

Choose a time on our calendar and confirm your names, phone and email. Tell us if you need witnesses — we'll have them ready.

Say "I do" on Zoom15-min ceremony

A short live ceremony with a licensed officiant, from wherever you both are. We sign and return your license to Utah County, and your official marriage certificate is issued by the county.

⚠️ The step most couples miss

  1. When Utah County's application asks for the officiant's email, enter YOUR OWN email address — not ours. That's how the officiant link is sent to you, so you can paste it into your private page.
  2. Getting your license approved does not mean you're married yet — the officiant still has to perform the ceremony and sign.
  3. After Utah County issues your license, look for their email with a link for the officiant to sign. Check your spam or promotions folder too.
  4. Don't sign it yourselves and don't forward it anywhere else — copy the whole link and paste it into your private page on our site.
  5. That link is what lets our officiant legally complete your marriage. Without it we can't hold your ceremony.
Same-day ceremonies: We can hold your ceremony the same day you receive your license and officiant link from Utah County. Utah's online ID verification is usually quick, but it sometimes needs manual review, which can delay your license — county processing times are outside our control. Once you have your officiant link, book the same day or any date in the future you like.

International couples

Neither partner needs to be a U.S. citizen or resident. Add an apostille to use your certificate abroad.

Every couple

Same-sex couples, second marriages, elopements, "we just want it done" — all welcome, no judgment.

What you need

Simple requirements

  • Both partners 18 or older
  • A valid government-issued photo ID for each partner — a driver's license, state ID or passport works best. Military IDs are not recommended: they fail Utah's online ID check far more often.
  • For Utah's ID check: photograph the ID in good light with no glare, all corners visible and the text sharp; in the selfie, match the facial expression on your ID photo (neutral if your ID is neutral), no hat or sunglasses
  • A phone or computer with a camera and internet for the Zoom ceremony
  • Two witnesses — yours, or ours for $25 each

Virtual Same Day Marriage

  • Licensed officiant
  • Live Zoom ceremony
  • Officiant signs and returns your Utah County license
  • Support by phone or text

Optional add-ons

  • Same-day ceremony — marry the day Utah County issues your license: +$100 (total $399)
  • Witnesses provided by us: $25 each

Not included: the $71.75 Utah County marriage license fee, which you pay directly to the county when you apply.

International & immigration

Marrying a partner in another country

Neither of you needs to be a U.S. citizen or live in the U.S. to get married online through Utah County. Couples join from the Philippines, Mexico, India, Colombia, Europe and everywhere in between. All you need is a valid passport or government ID and a stable internet connection.

Planning to use your marriage for a visa or green card? Read this first:

  • Spouse visas, not fiancé visas. A K-1 fiancé(e) visa is only for couples who aren't married yet. Once you're married, the usual path is a spouse visa (CR-1 or IR-1) or a green card petition (Form I-130).
  • Plan to meet in person. Under federal immigration law (INA 101(a)(35)), a marriage where the spouses weren't physically together at the ceremony may not count for immigration until the couple has been together in person after the wedding. Keep boarding passes, hotel receipts and dated photos from your visit.
  • Show it's a real relationship. Immigration officers look for evidence of a genuine relationship, such as photos together over time, messages, call logs and travel history.

Immigration rules change and every case is different. We're a wedding service, not a law firm, so please talk with an immigration attorney before relying on any marriage for a visa.

After the "I do"

Your marriage certificate, apostille and name change

  • Your certificate: after the ceremony, your officiant submits the signed license and Utah County records your marriage and issues your certificate. Order extra certified copies from the Utah County Clerk. Most agencies want a certified copy, not a printout.
  • Using it abroad: many countries ask for an apostille on a U.S. marriage certificate. For a Utah County certificate, the apostille comes from the State of Utah. Our sister company Same Day Apostille can handle it for you.
  • Translations: need the certificate in another language? Our sister company PandA Notary provides certified translations.
  • Changing your name: start with Social Security, then update your driver's license or state ID, passport, bank accounts and employer records. Bring a certified copy of your marriage certificate to each.

A few countries won't register a marriage that was performed online. If you'll register your marriage abroad, check with that country's consulate before booking.

Why couples book with us instead of doing it alone

You could apply with Utah County and track down a Utah-authorized officiant yourself. Here's what you get with Married Today CA:

  • A licensed officiant who knows the Utah County process
  • A private step-by-step page that walks you through the license
  • Help with the step most couples miss (the officiant link)
  • Witnesses on request, so you don't need to find two people
  • Same-day ceremony option
  • Real people by phone or text, 7 days a week: (385) 405-3873
  • Apostille and translation through our sister companies
  • The team behind California's Married Today CA chapels, featured in the Los Angeles Times, Forbes and Business Insider

Questions, answered

Is a virtual marriage legal?

Yes. Your marriage is performed under a Utah County marriage license by a licensed officiant, and your certificate is a real U.S. marriage certificate issued by Utah County.

Where is it recognized?

A U.S. marriage certificate is valid in all 50 states and is recognized in most countries when it carries an apostille seal. Please read the important note below before relying on it for a specific purpose.

Do we need to be in the same place?

No. You can join the Zoom ceremony from different states or different countries. Each partner just needs a valid photo ID and a device with a camera.

Can we really get married today?

Yes — on the day Utah County issues your license and officiant link. ID verification sometimes needs manual review, which can delay the license. As soon as you have the link, you can book the same day or any later date.

What exactly do I paste into your form?

The link from Utah County's email that lets the officiant sign your license. Copy the full link (it starts with https://) and paste it in. If you can't find the email, check spam, or call us at (385) 405-3873.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes, two. If you have your own, they join the Zoom — no charge. If you need one or both from us, it's $25 per witness, added when you check out.

What is the same-day option?

For +$100 (total $399) we hold your ceremony the same day Utah County issues your license and officiant link. It's based on the day the county issues the license — not the day you pay — because Utah's ID verification sometimes needs manual review. Without it, you book any available date after your license arrives.

Is the $71.75 county fee included?

No. Our $299 service fee does not include the Utah County license fee. You pay the $71.75 directly to Utah County during your license application.

Can I get a refund?

No. All sales are final and the $299 service fee is non-refundable.

Do we have to travel to Utah?

No. Everything happens online: you apply for the Utah County license from home and say your vows on Zoom. Neither of you ever needs to visit Utah.

We live in California. Is an online marriage valid here?

Yes. California, like every other state, recognizes a marriage that was legally performed in another state. Your Utah County marriage is valid in California and all 50 states.

Do we need to be U.S. citizens or live in the U.S.?

No. Neither partner needs U.S. citizenship or residency. You each need a valid government-issued photo ID (a passport works well for international partners) and an internet connection.

Can we get married online if we are in different countries?

Yes. You can each join the Zoom ceremony from wherever you are, even different countries and time zones. We will help you pick a time that works for both of you.

Is an online marriage the same as a proxy marriage?

No. In a proxy marriage someone stands in for a partner. In an online marriage both of you appear yourselves, live on video, and the officiant marries you directly.

Can we use our online marriage for a green card or spouse visa?

Couples do use Utah online marriages in spouse-visa and green-card cases, but immigration has its own rules. If you were not physically together at the ceremony, you may need to show you met in person after the wedding. Please talk with an immigration attorney before you rely on it.

Can we apply for a K-1 fiancé visa after marrying online?

No. A K-1 visa is only for couples who are not married yet. Married couples usually use a spouse visa (CR-1 or IR-1) instead.

Can same-sex couples get married online?

Yes. Same-sex couples are welcome and are married the same way as every other couple. If you plan to use your marriage abroad, check how that country treats same-sex marriages.

How do we get copies of our marriage certificate?

After your ceremony, Utah County records your marriage and issues your certificate. Extra certified copies are ordered from the Utah County Clerk. Agencies usually want a certified copy.

Can we change our last name after an online marriage?

Yes. Use a certified copy of your marriage certificate to update your name with Social Security first, then your driver’s license or state ID, passport, bank and employer.

Do we need an apostille?

Only if you will use your marriage certificate in another country that asks for one. For a Utah certificate the apostille comes from the State of Utah, and our sister company Same Day Apostille can get it for you.

What if Utah’s online ID check does not pass?

Try again with a passport or driver’s license, in good light with no glare, and match the expression on your ID photo in your selfie. Some applications go to manual review, which can take longer. Call or text us at (385) 405-3873 and we will help.

Important: We do not guarantee that your marriage certificate will be accepted by every entity or institution. Before you book, please check with the agency, embassy, court, employer or other institution you plan to submit it to, and confirm what they require (for example, an apostille or translation). Married Today CA is a private wedding service and is not affiliated with Utah County or any government agency. All sales are final.
